I well remember one particular morning in 1954, when I was serving at RAF Eastleigh in Nairobi, Kenya. All of a sudden, the sky darkened dramatically and all I could see was a moving mass of flying insects which looked like myriads of giant grasshoppers. They quickly moved away and left an eerie and stunned silence. That was my only experience of a locust swarm; later, I was told that it was just a small one.
